Are You Using an Effective Kitchen Water Filter?

Are You Using an Effective Kitchen Water Filter?

Water Filter

I was surprised to find out the results of testing a sample of water taken from my kitchen tap. Can you believe what all impurities did I find? You name it and it had it. It was then that I decided to have a kitchen water filter installed. But the market today is filled with choices and options for these filters, how to ensure which one is the most effective? Here is a quick checklist for the same.

Before we start with the checklist, let me share the information about the list of contaminants that are generally available in the water coming to our homes. The most common impurity is chlorine, you can taste the water and determine if it is present or not. Apart from making the water taste bitter, there are various other health issues which are caused by consuming this chlorinated water.

Other top impurities are pesticides, herbicides, bacteria, cysts, viruses, animal feces, bird droppings and even metal traces. It is not difficult to conclude that drinking such contaminated water is neither hygienic nor healthy.

A quick and easy solution to ensure fresh and clean drinking water is to have a kitchen water filter installed. Believe me, this is one decision that you will never repent. After all who does not want to stay away from all sorts of water borne diseases ranging from constipation, cholera to even cancer?

When I started my research for an effective kitchen water filter, I concluded in creating the following checklist:

(i) Make sure that the kitchen water filter that you select has a carbon filter so as to take care of the most common and dangerous contaminant which is chlorine.

(ii) Some filters are very basic in that they have nothing more than a carbon filter. Such filters are not capable of handling other types of contaminants present in tap water.

Instead of such filters, choose the one which has multi stages. Typically these multi stage filters have more than one filtration stage wherein apart from chlorine; other organic, chemical and synthetic contaminants are also effectively removed from the water. Such water filters are generally based on the combination of various filtration techniques like carbon filtration, ion exchange and sub micron filtration etc.

This combined force makes these water filters the best and most effective solution for purifying the water.

(iii) Make sure that the essential minerals present in the natural water are not lost in the process of filtration. This is a very common but the most serious problem with the reverse osmosis water filters which end up stripping off all essential minerals from water. These minerals are very much required for the basic functioning of our body.

Again, multi stage water purifiers are superior here because they successfully retain all these essential minerals in the water and then prevent mineral deficiencies.

Apart from keeping these things in mind, make sure that you select a cost effective kitchen water filter. Very effective and efficient filters are available in the market and that too at a very reasonable price.

Look out. Start your research today and select a kitchen water filter which works the best for you.

Bangalore-Treating kitchen decay baptize for reuse

Bangalore-Treating kitchen decay baptize for reuse Video Clips.

Waste water emerging from the kitchen sink has high organic material from the food dishes as well as oil and grease from typical Indian cooking. This water can be treated with a simple oil and grease trap and a planted filter for reuse as garden water. Approximately 30 litres of water per person per day is use up in doing the dishes in a typical Indian home. The first thing to do is to trap the oil and grease which can be taken out occasionally and put into a compost heap. The food material is also allowed to settle down and separated from the rest of the water. This remaining water is oxygenated using a small aquarium bubbler. This cost Rs 250/- and is obviously a Chinese make. It also consumes less than a half unit of energy every day. About 100 litres to 120 litres of water can be treated and used to water the pots and the garden. If any water is in excess it can be used to recharge the ground through a small recharge well.
